Hofner 500/5 'Sutcliffe" Bass 1959 *SOLD*
Model: Hofner 500/5 Bass 1959
Description

1959 Hofner 500/5, Serial number 421, full hollowbody archtop bass guitar often called the"Sutcliffe" Bass because this was the model played by the Beatles original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe back in the bands Hamburg days. Dated as 1959 using the date stamp on the pots this beautiful instrument is in remarkable condition for it's age and is in fully playable working order. We are selling the guitar on behalf of the original owner who bought it in 1960, the same year Stuart Sutcliffe bought his. We understand all the parts are original including the black bar pickups, bridge, pickguard, and Hofner's "teacup" knobs. It's even in it's original, if somewhat battered case.

Although played extensively back in the 60's the instrument has been really well cared for and is in comparatively excellent condition with no serious dings or scratches on the body and neck. There is a small chip on the very top edge of the rear the headstock (see in photo of the back of the headstock).

One thing we really like about this bass is that all although it's 61 years old it's a real pleasure to play, has a very comfortable neck and good playing action and sounds great through both  vintage and modern amps. So this beauty is not only a very collectible investment piece but also a wonderful instrument to play.
